About Indira Hridayesh
Indira Hridayesh was an Indian National Congress leader, MLA from Haldwani as well as Leader of Opposition in the Uttarakhand Legislative Council in India. She was one of the senior most Congress leaders from the state.
She was just 33 when she first time became member of U.P. legislative council (MLC) in 1974. After that she three more times became member of Legislative Council in 1986, 1992 and 1998. Then she 3 times (2000-2002, 2002-2007, 2012-2017) became member of Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly after separation of Uttarakhand from Uttar Pradesh on 9 November, 2000.
She was Finance Minister in Uttarakhand 2012 to 2017, Parliamentary Affairs, Legislative Affairs, and Planning in Government of Uttarakhand under Harish Rawat. She was addressed as the 'Super Chief Minister' as she was a very powerful leader.
Indira Hridayesh died on 13 June IST 11:35:00 at Uttarakhand Bhawan in Delhi due to cardiac arrest.

Indira Hridayesh was born on 7 April, 1941 at Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. She lived for 80 years and died on 13th June, 2021 due to cardiac arrest.

She has completed MA in Political Science from Agra University in 1959 and Doctorate (PhD) from Kanpur University in 1974.

In retaliation to the statement made by Uttarakhand chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, who accused Congress of speaking the language of Pakistan, leader of Opposition Indira Hridayesh said that her father fought for the Independence, and she does not need any teachings from the CM.
Indira Hridayesh was a daughter of late Tikaram Pathak, who was said to be an associate of Mahatma Gandhi). Her father also fought for the independence. She inherited bravery and loyalty from his father only.

She hold a political career since 1974-2021. In span of these 47 years four times she became member of Legislative Council in 1974, 1986, 1992 and in 1998. On 9, November 2000 Uttar Pradesh got divided into 2 parts and a separate state Uttarakhand had been established. In March 2002, first time the Lok Sabha election was held and Congress won the election, N.D. Tiwari got elected as the CM of Uttarakhand and Indira Hridayesh got elected as MLA from Haldwani seat first time in her career. She became minister of Finance and other important affairs. She hold a strong ruling power under the rule of Chief Minister N.D. Tiwari. she was known as Super CM.
In 2007, she lost the election but in 2012 she again won the election from Haldwani. In 2014, there was a news of Indira to be a new CM replacing Vijay Bahuguna member of Bhartiya Janta Party, but Harish Rawat was sworn as Chief Minister on 1 February 2014. This created anger in many people on not electing her as Chief Minister. In 2017, she became MLA third time. Congress won only 11 seats among 70 seats and she was one of those winning 11 MLA's.

Why Indira Hridayesh was called as Iron Lady of Kumaon?
Hridayesh decided to make Haldwani worth living that has emerged the biggest town of Kumaon with a large number of people from the hilly region settled there. She said that there is also need of improving the road network. And she did it as the town after 2012 has got a clean and widespread network of roads. As stated by one of the resident of Haldwani, the quality and expanse of roads there cannot be compared with any other town.
Along with building better road network she also developed so many parks in the town. She has been working to make Haldwani a modern city as stated by Jahangir Raju, a journalist based in Haldwani. Besides good roads, Hridayesh has got built two international-standard institutions, including an international stadium at Gaulapar and a zoo in the Gaulapar region with a biodiversity park, mono rail and an aquarium. The beautification of the town and the construction of a modern bridge on the Gaula river are her some another works.

Uttarakhand BJP chief Bansidhar Bhagat called senior Congress leader ‘budhiya’
According to the Hindustan Times. Hridayesh had claimed that several BJP MLAs wanted to join to the Congress party and according to her they were in close contact with her.
In response, Bhagat said, “Are budhiya tujhse kyun sampark karenge? “Doobte jahaz se koi sampark karega? that triggered a bitter political controversy in the state between the parties as reported by ANI.

Hridayesh said in a video message on Twitter that she was “saddened and hurt” by the offensive language used by Bhagat. “The BJP’s state chief has insulted the power of women,” she said. “The women of this country will never tolerate this.”
She also talked about the that Bhagat’s narrow mindedness. “Such indecent language does not look good in politics,” she said. She pointed on Bhagat and said “The women of Uttarakhand will give you a befitting reply for this insult when the time comes.” She also added that the leaders shouting “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” slogans should know how to mind their language.
Then, Congress' Uttarakhand President Pritam Singh asked for an urgent apology from Bhagat on this controvery. “His words just show the sort of mentality BJP leaders have towards women,” Singh said. “He should offer an apology immediately for his highly condemnable language.”

Indira Hridayesh Death
Indira Hridayesh passed away on 13th June, 2021 due to cardiac arrest in New Delhi.
Hridayesh had attended a party meeting in view of the 2022 assembly polls, chaired by party in-charge for Uttarakhand Devendra Yadav in New Delhi on 12th June.
Her son Sumit Hridayesh stated that his mother had watched movies of Amitabh Bacchan and Rishi Kapoor till 4 a.m in the morning. At 4 o' clock she had vomiting and after that she told her care taker that she is alright and asked to wake her early in the morning.
She had also taken her dinner late. Her care take came to wake her nearly at 10:30 a.m. but she wont responded. After that his mother's P.R.O Abhinav phoned him that his mother is not giving any response.
Sumit told that he was in Gurugram. His younger brother Saurabh as soon as got aware of the news of her demise he left for Uttarakhand Bhavan.

She had tested COVID-19 positive in April, 2021 and had undergone a heart surgery after her recovery.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi expressed condolence on her demise.
"Dr. Indira Hridayesh Ji was at the forefront of several community service efforts. She made a mark as an effective legislator and also had rich administrative experience. Saddened by her demise. Condolences to her family and supporters. Om Shanti," the Prime Minister said in a tweet.
In a tweet in Hindi, Rahul Gandhi said, "Received the sad news about the demise of Dr Indira Hridayesh, a strong link of the Congress party in Uttarakhand. She worked till the end for public service and the Congress family. Her social and political contributions are an inspiration. Condolences to her loves ones".
Congress general secretary and former state chief minister Harish Rawat said it is an irreparable loss for the country and the state. Mr Rawat said she has been a part of the Congress family for over four decades, first in Uttar Pradesh and then in Uttarakhand and was the voice of teachers. Mr Rawat said it was also a personal loss for him as he always got the love and affection of an elder sister from her.
Condoling her demise, AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said the Congress has lost a brave leader and popular public representative.
Expressing grief at her death, Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat said she played a significant role in the politics of both Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand for four decades.
"Her knowledge of parliamentary procedures was amazing. We learnt a lot from her," Mr Uniyal said.
Pradesh Congress vice president Dhirendra Pratap described her as the "iron lady" of Uttarakhand.
