Father's Day is celebrated as holiday to give honour and respect to parenthood of fathers who work so hard everyday to manage livings of their family and tries to fullfill every wishes of their family and in same process they even forget what they wish for. In most parts of the world it is celebrated on the third Sunday of June. This year it Father's day is celebrated on 20th June.

Father's Day History and Founder

Who was the founder of Father's Day ?

Sonora Smart Dodd was the founder of Father's Day who was a daughter of American Civil War Veteran William Jackson Smart. 

Father's Day History

Sonora Smart Dodd mother died when she was 16 years old and she was the only daughter of her father and he and his father raise her younger brothers. His father dedicatedly raised up his 6 children as a single parent. She loved and respect her father very much. 

When she heard about newly recognised  Mother's Day founded by Anna Jarvis in honour of her mother.  Then, Sonora strongly wanted that fathers too get the same recognition. She approached the Spokane Ministerial Alliance and gave suggestion of declaring her own father's birthday as Father's Day to give honour to all the fathers but the Alliance choose the third Sunday as Father's Day.

It became popular in Catholic countries of Europe since the Middle Ages as Saint Joseph's Day.

When Father's Day was first celebrated and where?

First father day was celebrated on June 19, 1910 in Spokane, Washington.

Father's Day Date 

In US Father's Day is celebrated on the third Sunday of June and the same way in India because India also follows US like many other Countries.
In European Countries like Spain, Portugal, Italy it is celebrated on March 19. 

Significance of Father's Day 

Father's day is celebrated to devote gratitude towards every father who work for 365 days to earn such amount so, they can fullfill each and every wish of their family, to provide them a better life and help their children to ace their goals in life.

It should be a day when not only children but whole family should appreciate fathers for their fatherhood and make them feel most special person of the family because they always are the backbone of the family financially, mentally and emotionally.

Father's Day in India

Father's Day is celebrated on the third Sunday of June in India. In India is not considered as a public holiday. Usually celebrated only in bigger cities like Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, New Delhi, Kanpur, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Pune and others. 

In India, motherhood is more popular in the family because most of the father of the country could not give enough time to their children because of their work load and daily jobs but it fathers should get recognition for what they do for their family without thinking for a second about them.

But in Nagaland it is a huge holiday which is a North Eastern State of India and they perform prayer Sunday prayers in Churches.
